Step beyond the busy souks and tourist routes to explore the authentic heart of Marrakesh’s craftsmanship with Tahar Baba, a local official licensed guide and native Marrakchi passionate about preserving traditional arts.
With years of experience guiding visitors through the city’s hidden corners, Tahar will lead you on a fascinating guided workshop tour, where you’ll meet local artisans, learn ancient techniques, and even try your hand at creating something yourself.
What to Expect
Your immersive tour begins in the Medina of Marrakesh, a UNESCO World Heritage site brimming with colors, scents, and creativity. Tahar will take you behind the scenes into small family-run workshops rarely visited by tourists, where masters still practice age-old crafts passed down through generations.
Depending on your interests and time, your experience may include several of the following workshops:
🏺 Pottery & Ceramics Workshop : Visit local artisans shaping and hand-painting traditional Moroccan pottery in vivid geometric designs. Try decorating your own small tagine or plate to take home.
🧶 Carpet Weaving Workshop : Learn about Berber weaving traditions, natural dyeing techniques, and the stories hidden in each rug’s pattern.
🪞 Metal & Brass Engraving Workshop : Watch skilled craftsmen hand-engrave ornate lanterns and trays, using tools and methods that have changed little for centuries.
🐪 Leather Tannery & Craft Workshop : Discover how leather is naturally dyed and transformed into the famous Moroccan slippers (babouches), belts, and bags.
💎 Jewelry & Silverwork Studio : Explore the fine art of traditional Amazigh jewelry making and see how intricate filigree and enamel work come together.
🍵 Spice Blending or Herbal Workshop: Visit a traditional herboriste to learn about Morocco’s healing herbs and spices, and blend your own aromatic tea or spice mix.
